Rainbow Mountain from the day of its discovery, it did not take long to become one of the most visited mountains in Cusco Peru next to Machu Picchu.
Rainbow Mountain named Vinincunca or Winincuca, also called Mountain of 7 Colors (the locals call it Cerro Colorado).

It is located more than 100 kilometers from the city of Cusco, on the road to Ausangate, between the districts of Cusipata, Province of Quispicanchi and Pitumarca.

Weather in the Rainbow Moutain
Most travellers agree and recommend that the best time to visit the mountain is between April and August.
Because at that time the mountain is dry and you can see much better its different tonalities.
Try to avoid visiting in the days of rain or seasons that have fallen snow between (January and March), you can no longer see in its naturalness the mountain and until you can not take the famous photo.
History of the Rainbow Mountain

The place now known as the rainbow mountain 10 to 15 years ago was a mountain of snow. As the years passed thanks to global warming, the snow began to melt, to the point of disappearing completely.
It was until 2010 when a group of travelers made their trekking to the Apu Ausangate, realized that there was a rainbow mountain, it was from that year that travel agencies began to provide their services to the rainbow mountain.
How the mountain was formed?
Going back 20 million years ago approximately at that time the rocks with gravel, halites, limestone . were compacting one on top of the other.
As time passed by the collision of the tectonic plates, new mountains were born that remained intact with their colors. Having 5,200 meters above sea level, it is such a point that there is almost no vegetation at all.
If there was vegetation, this colorful wonder could not be visible.

If you are not sure how to do it on your own, you can hire a tour with a travel agency, you can do it on the Internet or you can find it in the Historical center of cusco
Mountain tours include Transport, Food, Guided tours, Tickets, Pick up from the hotel at the beginning of the tour.
The outings to the mountain of colors are between 4:00 to 5:30 am and conclude in the square Rejocijo ( 6 o 7 pm)
